Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness has had a spectacular 2019, honey, and he is ending the year in historical fashion. The Over The Top author is the cover model for the January 2020 issue of Cosmopolitan UK, and he is the first solo non-female to do that since Boy George in 1984.
Wearing an orange and pink tulle Christian Siriano gown with striped socks and Nike Cortez sneakers, Van Ness has a huge smile on his face and the headline reads, “Yep. We did it. You’re totally welcome.”

In the interview for the cover story, the 35-year-old talks about everything from living with HIV to making soup with Taylor Swift. Van Ness came out as HIV positive this past summer in his book Over The Top, and he says that this is just the beginning.
“I’m quickly realizing that there is still so much misunderstanding, so much sensationalizing of living with HIV. The stigma and the difficulty around the process of getting treatment is creating that. My work has only really just begun,” said Van Ness.
Now that his career has exploded thanks to Queer Eye and Gays of Thrones, Van Ness admits he has to say “no” to a lot of things he wants to do. He explained that days before the interview he was making soup with Swift and she asked him to go to a Madonna concert with her. But, he had to decline the offer because he had a 5 a.m. flight to London the next morning to do the Cosmo shoot.

Van Ness says he hates saying “no” and he does get FOMO. But, even though it would have been an amazing experience, he has to prioritize self-care because if he doesn’t his candle will burn out.
In just 19 months, Van Ness has gone from a full-time hairdresser and small business owner to a Netflix star and best-selling author. And, to deal with the stress and pressure from his new life in the public eye, he says he goes to therapy, does yoga and meditation, and smokes cannabis.
He told the magazine that if the UK would legalize cannabis, the country would have enough taxes for the National Health Service to pay for not only basic healthcare, but elective procedures, too.
“And with those politicians doing all that lying about how much money the NHS was going to get if you left the EU, I bet if you had some gorgeous legalized marijuana you’d have enough taxes for, like, state-paid lipo or nose jobs or fillings. I bet we could get dental and vision [healthcare]. PUT THAT ON A BUS,” said Van Ness.
